Sugihara Ietsugu (杉原家次)

Ietsugu SUGIHARA was a warlord of the Sengoku period (period of warring states) (Japan). He was a vassal of Hideyoshi TOYOTOMI.

He was an uncle of Nene (Kodaiin), a lawful wife of Hideyoshi HASHIBA. Because of the relation, he served as karo (chief retainer) of Hideyoshi from an early period. After the Battle of Yamazaki in 1582, he was appointed to as lord of Fukuchiyama-jo Castle in the Tanba Province by Hideyoshi. After the Battle of Shizugatake in the next year, he was granted chigyo (enfeoffment) of 32 thousand koku and also appointed to Kyoto shoshidai (The Kyoto deputy). On September 9, 1584, he died. Age at death: 55.

His son Nagafusa inherited him.
